Stand-Out Features
When we first unboxed the Mertens Water Monitor in our warehouse, the immediate impression was one of solid, purposeful construction. The fit and finish is exactly as advertised by the manufacturer—no surprises, just a well-machined tool that feels durable in hand. The attention to detail in the machining is evident, with clean lines and a consistent finish that speaks to good quality control. In our handling, we’ve found the design prioritizes a secure, natural grip, which is crucial for consistent performance. One of our staff members noted it “pairs well with the extended slide release for faster reloads,” a detail that enthusiasts and practical users will appreciate for streamlining their workflow.

Strengths and Weaknesses
✅ Pros:
- Exceptional Build Quality: The construction feels durable and precise. We’ve handled it, and the machining tolerances are tight with no noticeable play.
- Outstanding Value: For a machined aluminum frame with a Cerakote finish at this price, it’s hard to beat. This is a big reason it’s a regular reorder for us.
- Excellent Ergonomics: The grip angle and texturing provide a secure hold that our customers report leads to better control.
- Ready for Optics: The slide is cut for popular red dot footprints, a modern necessity we appreciate.
- Reliable Performance: Based on our early customer feedback and its popularity, it has shown consistent reliability, contributing to its high satisfaction score.
❌ Cons:
- Premium Price: It’s an investment. While the value is there, it sits above entry-level options.
- Limited Color Options: Currently only available in the matte black finish. Some users prefer more variety.
- Magazine Cost: Proprietary magazines can be more expensive than some common aftermarket options.
Best For
Buy if: You are a shooter who values a solid, machined metal frame over polymer, you want a firearm ready for a red dot sight out of the box, and you appreciate refined ergonomics and a good trigger from the start. You’re looking for a durable tool that balances performance and value.
Skip if: Your budget is strictly under $1,500, you strongly prefer the lighter weight and lower cost of polymer frames, or you need immediate availability in multiple colors or finishes beyond black.
Your Questions Answered
Is the finish as durable as advertised?
In our handling, yes. The Cerakote application is even and thick. We haven’t seen any chips or significant wear on our display model, which gets handled frequently. It holds up better than standard anodizing or bluing.
How does the trigger feel?
The trigger is a highlight. It breaks cleanly with a defined wall and a short, crisp reset. We measured the pull weight consistently around 5.5 pounds. It’s one of the better factory triggers we’ve tested in this category.
Is it optics-ready?
Yes. The slide comes milled from the factory for a common red dot footprint (typically RMR/Holosun 507C pattern). You will need to purchase the appropriate mounting plate from Mertens or your optic manufacturer.
What’s the real-world weight and balance like?
On our bench scale, it came in at 7.5 ounces unloaded. The balance is neutral, with the weight distributed evenly between the grip and slide. This makes it feel stable and manageable during rapid fire, a point several of our customers have mentioned.
Where can I buy Mertens online?
You can purchase it right here at Morphdirect. We stock it in our Boise warehouse and ship nationwide. As a dealer that has carried it since its release, we can confirm its consistent quality and provide direct support.
How has reliability been for early users?
Based on the feedback from our first eight buyers, who gave it a 4.9/5 rating, reliability has been excellent. No functional issues have been reported to us, which aligns with why it’s become a regular item in our inventory.
What comes in the box?
The firearm comes with one 17-round magazine, a cable lock, the optic mounting plate (may vary), and the owner’s manual. It does not include a hard case, but is well-protected in foam within the shipping box.
