Description
The Pastel (VPI) Axanthic Ball Python is a distinct morph that combines the bright, clean coloration of the Pastel gene with the reduced-yellow, high-contrast pattern of the VPI Axanthic line. It’s for the keeper looking to add a striking, high-contrast animal to their collection or to utilize in breeding projects targeting complex axanthic combinations. Since we started stocking it in January 2026, it has become one of our steady sellers in the axanthic category.
Stand-Out Features
- High-Contrast Pattern: The VPI Axanthic gene removes yellow pigmentation, resulting in a black, white, and silver animal with exceptional pattern clarity.
- Pastel Brightening: The Pastel gene lightens the overall coloration and enhances blushing, creating a cleaner, brighter appearance than a standard axanthic.
- Proven Genetics: This is a visual double recessive (co-dom Pastel, recessive Axanthic), guaranteeing both traits are passed to 100% of its offspring when bred to a normal.
- Reliable Feeder: In our care, this line has demonstrated consistent feeding responses on appropriately sized frozen/thawed rodents.
- Established Bloodline: The VPI Axanthic line is a foundational, well-documented gene known for its quality and predictable results in breeding.

Your Questions Answered
Will the colors change as it ages?
Yes, all ball pythons undergo some color change. The high-contrast black and white/silver pattern will remain, but some brown tones may develop along the spine as it matures, which is typical for axanthics. The Pastel gene helps maintain brighter, cleaner tones longer than a standard axanthic.
What can I breed this to?
As a visual double-gene animal, it’s an efficient breeder. Pairing it with another VPI Axanthic will produce all axanthic offspring, with 50% also being Pastel. Breeding to a normal will yield 100% normals that are heterozygous for axanthic and 50% heterozygous for Pastel. For visual Pastels, breed to other Pastel-complex morphs.
How does VPI Axanthic differ from other lines?
The VPI line is one of the original axanthic lines. It is known for producing animals with very dark, crisp black pigment and clean white/silver background. It is compatible with some, but not all, other axanthic lines for producing super forms, so research is advised for specific breeding projects.
