Your Questions Answered

What does “VPI” mean for this Axanthic?

VPI refers to the original breeding line developed by The VPI Collection. It’s the benchmark Axanthic gene. When paired with another VPI Axanthic, it will produce 100% Axanthic offspring. Mixing lines (like VPI with Joliff) can result in less predictable, lower-contrast animals.

How does the color change as it ages?

The high-contrast black, white, and gray pattern holds well into adulthood. While some brown tones may subtly develop along the sides, it maintains a significantly desaturated appearance compared to a normal ball python. It will not develop the typical yellow blushing.

Is this a good snake for a beginner?

Yes. Its care requirements are identical to a normal ball python. The primary consideration is its value as a genetic animal. For a first-time keeper simply wanting a pet, a normal may be more economical. For someone interested in morphs or future breeding, this is an excellent starting point.
