Your Questions Answered

What size enclosure does this tarantula need?

An adult requires a secure, terrestrial enclosure with a minimum footprint of 18″ x 12″. Provide 5-6 inches of slightly moist substrate for burrowing. Cross-ventilation is important. This is not an arboreal species; floor space is more critical than height.

When will I see the purple coloration?

The vivid purple and pink hues are a sexually dimorphic trait of mature males. Males will display this coloration after their ultimate molt. Females and juveniles are typically a more subdued brown or black. We ship unsexed spiderlings; coloration develops with maturity.

How is its temperament for care?

This species has a defensive nature and can be fast and skittish. It possesses urticating hairs and will readily kick them if threatened. It is a display animal, not suited for handling. Feeding should be done with long tongs, and rehousing requires careful planning and respect for its speed.
