Description
The Tangerine het Amel Fat Tail Gecko is a high-color, captive-bred morph for the intermediate to advanced keeper looking to add vibrant genetics to their collection. This line produces exceptional tangerine coloration and carries the Amel (amelanistic) gene for potential future breeding projects. Since we added it to our inventory in early 2026, it has consistently been one of our top-selling gecko morphs.
Stand-Out Features
- Vibrant Tangerine Hue: This line is selectively bred for intense, saturated orange coloration that develops beautifully with age.
- Proven Het for Amel: Carries the recessive amelanistic gene, allowing for the production of patternless, red-eyed offspring when paired correctly.
- Captive-Bred & Established: Hatched here in the US, these geckos are well-started on a diet of gut-loaded insects and are accustomed to handling.
- Robust Fat Tail Physiology: Known for being hardy, docile, and an excellent display animal in a properly set up bioactive or naturalistic enclosure.
- Genetic Investment: A solid foundation animal for breeders aiming to work with clean tangerine and Amel lines.

Your Questions Answered
What does “het Amel” mean for this gecko?
“Het Amel” means this gecko carries one copy of the recessive amelanistic gene. It visually displays the tangerine coloration but can produce Amel offspring if bred to another gecko carrying the Amel gene. The Amel morph lacks black pigment, resulting in a patternless body and red eyes.
How is the temperament for handling?
African Fat Tail Geckos are generally docile. This juvenile is accustomed to brief, gentle handling. Always support its body fully and limit sessions to 10-15 minutes to minimize stress. Their calm nature makes them a good choice for a display pet.
What setup do you recommend?
A 10-gallon tank is suitable for a juvenile, with an adult requiring a 20-gallon long minimum. Provide a humid hide with moist sphagnum moss, a warm hide, a shallow water dish, and under-tank heating regulated by a thermostat. Maintain a temperature gradient of 75-90°F with higher humidity (50-60%) than Leopard Geckos.
