The Colombian Lesser Black Tarantula (Xenesthis immanis) is a premium terrestrial species for the intermediate to advanced keeper. It offers a striking appearance and robust size without the extreme speed of some other New World tarantulas. We’ve stocked this species since early 2024, and it consistently sells out, prompting us to maintain a large on-hand inventory to meet demand.

Your Questions Answered
What size enclosure does this tarantula need?
For a juvenile or sub-adult, a 5 to 10-gallon terrarium is suitable. Adults require a minimum of a 10-gallon long or equivalent enclosure with a secure lid. Provide ample substrate (4-6 inches) for burrowing and a hide. Cross-ventilation is important.
How is its temperament for handling?
This is not a recommended species for handling. Xenesthis immanis is a defensive tarantula that will readily flick urticating hairs from its abdomen. Its primary defense is a combination of hair flicking and a fast retreat. It should be observed, not handled.
Why do you keep so many in stock?
Our staff policy is to keep 20+ specimens available at all times. This species is in high demand and has long lead times from suppliers. Maintaining our own stock ensures you receive a healthy animal quickly and avoids the delays and uncertainty of backorders.
