Description
The Stinger ph Amel African Fat Tail Gecko Adult Female is a proven, captive-bred reptile for intermediate to advanced keepers. This morph combines the Stinger pattern with the amelanistic trait, resulting in a gecko with reduced black pigment and vibrant coloration. Since we added it to our inventory in fall 2025, it has consistently been a top performer in our gecko category. It’s an excellent choice for breeders looking to work with established genetics or for a striking display animal.
Stand-Out Features
- Proven Genetics: The amelanistic (amel) trait is well-documented and reliably passes to offspring, making this female a solid foundation for breeding projects.
- Distinctive Pattern: The “Stinger” pattern typically features a clean, bold dorsal stripe and reduced lateral patterning, creating a sharp, high-contrast look.
- Adult Size & Health: Sold as an established adult, this gecko is past the delicate juvenile stage and ready for its permanent enclosure or breeding program.
- Hardy Species: African Fat Tail Geckos (Hemitheconyx caudicinctus) are known for their generally calm disposition and manageable care requirements compared to more sensitive species.
- Captive-Bred Reliability: Sourced from reputable breeders, this animal is acclimated to captive life, feeding on common diets like gut-loaded crickets and mealworms.

Your Questions Answered
What does “ph Amel” mean?
“ph” stands for “possible heterozygous.” This female carries one copy of the recessive amelanistic gene. She visually does not show the amel trait but can produce amel offspring if paired with a male that is also amel or carries the gene.
Is this gecko ready to breed?
As an adult female, she is physically mature. We recommend a 2-4 week acclimation period in her new home with consistent feeding before considering introduction to a male. Always ensure the female is at a healthy weight (like the 2.1 oz we measured) prior to breeding.
How do you ship live geckos?
We ship via overnight courier with specialized insulated packaging and a heat or cool pack as needed for weather. Live arrival is guaranteed. Please note, while the gecko itself is in perfect health, we find the external shipping box could be more robust and handle it with extra care.
