Your Questions Answered
How does “Super Hypo” differ from a regular Hypo?
The “Super” form is the homozygous expression of the Hypo gene. Visually, it often results in even cleaner, brighter coloration with further reduced pattern compared to a heterozygous (normal Hypo) animal. Genetically, breeding a Super Hypo to a normal boa will produce 100% Hypos.
What setup do you recommend for this baby boa?
Start with a secure 10-20 gallon enclosure with a thermal gradient: a warm side of 88-90°F and a cool side of 78-80°F, using overhead heat with a thermostat. Provide a humid hide and a water bowl large enough for soaking. Cypress mulch or coconut husk bedding works well to maintain humidity.
Is this a good snake for a first-time owner?
While generally hardy, Colombian boas require a confident handler due to their potential size and strength. We recommend this morph for keepers who have experience with constrictors and are prepared for a long-term commitment, as they can live over 20 years with proper care.
