Your Questions Answered
What does “ph Patty” mean for this gecko?
“ph” stands for “possible heterozygous” or “potential het.” This gecko is from a lineage that could carry the recessive Patty gene. It is not visually a Patty, but it has a statistical chance of passing on the gene to offspring if paired with another Patty or het Patty. Breeding trials are required to prove out the trait.
Is this gecko handling-tolerant?
Yes. African Fat Tail Geckos are generally known for their docile temperament. This individual is no exception and has been acclimated to careful, minimal handling. As with all reptiles, gentle and infrequent handling is recommended to minimize stress.
What is the genetic outcome if I breed this gecko?
As a Whiteout (patternless) gecko heterozygous for Oreo, all offspring will inherit the Whiteout gene. Roughly 50% will also be Het Oreo. If this animal proves to be het Patty, approximately 50% of offspring would inherit that gene as well. Pairing it with visual Oreo or Patty morphs will produce visual combinations in the first generation.
