The Ultramel Ball Python is a distinct morph that combines the Ultramel and Ball Python genes, resulting in a snake with a clean, high-contrast pattern and reduced black pigmentation. It’s for the intermediate to advanced keeper looking to add a reliable, visually striking animal to their collection. Your Questions Answered
What does “Ultramel” mean?
The Ultramel gene is a co-dominant mutation that is allelic to the Albino gene. It reduces but does not completely eliminate black pigmentation (melanin), resulting in animals that are brighter than normals but not fully albino. They typically have dark eyes, not the red eyes of a true albino.
Is this a good snake for a beginner?
While its care is identical to a standard Ball Python, this is a higher-value morph. We recommend it for keepers who already have experience with the basic husbandry, feeding, and handling of Ball Pythons. Its docile nature is a plus, but the investment is better suited to someone past the initial learning curve.
How will the colors change as it ages?
The high-contrast pattern and bright colors will remain, but some yellow and orange saturation may increase with maturity. The “clean” look of the pattern, with reduced black speckling, is a hallmark of the morph and will be maintained into adulthood.
