Your Questions Answered
Is this snake a good choice for a beginner?
Yes. Corn snakes are widely considered one of the best beginner snake species due to their size, hardiness, and generally calm disposition. This captive-bred baby is already feeding reliably, which is the most critical factor for a new keeper’s success.
How do I set up its enclosure?
A 10-gallon tank is suitable initially. Provide a secure lid, a hide box on both the warm and cool ends, an under-tank heat pad regulated by a thermostat, a shallow water dish, and substrate like aspen shavings. The warm side should be 85°F, the cool side around 75°F.
Will the stripe pattern change as it grows?
The striped pattern is genetic and will remain for life. The background colors may intensify slightly, and some yellow pigmentation (from the amelanistic gene) often develops along the sides as the snake matures, enhancing the contrast.
