Your Questions Answered
What size enclosure does a baby mangrove monitor need?
Start with a vertically-oriented enclosure at least 36″ tall. They are arboreal and need ample climbing space. A large water dish for soaking and maintaining humidity is essential. They will require a significantly larger, custom-built enclosure as adults.
What do you feed them?
Offer a varied diet of gut-loaded insects like crickets, dubia roaches, and occasional treats like earthworms. Dust prey with calcium and vitamin supplements. Always provide fresh water.
Are they handleable?
With consistent, gentle interaction, they can become accustomed to handling. They are naturally fast and can be skittish, especially as juveniles. Patience is required to build trust. They are not typically a “lap pet” but can be a rewarding display and interaction animal.
