The Phlogiellus obscurus (ex. Selenocosmia obscura) Adult Female is a robust, terrestrial tarantula from the Philippines. No. This is an Old World tarantula with a defensive nature and considerable speed. It should only be kept by those with prior experience handling fast, defensive species. It is not a hands-on pet.
What enclosure setup do you recommend?
A terrestrial setup with more floor space than height. Provide 4-6 inches of slightly moist substrate for burrowing, a secure hide, and a shallow water dish. Good cross-ventilation is essential. A 5-10 gallon tank is appropriate for an adult.
How often does this spider need to be fed?
As an adult female, feeding once every 7-10 days with an appropriately sized insect (like a large cricket or roach) is sufficient. Reduce frequency if the abdomen appears overly plump.
