Your Questions Answered
What is the temperament of this species?
The Mascara is a defensive species. They are typically fast and can be quick to flick urticating hairs or assume a threat posture if disturbed. They are a display species, not for handling. Our staff notes they are best observed and interacted with using long tools.
What setup do you recommend for this pair?
House them separately. Each requires a secure, well-ventilated enclosure with a deep substrate for burrowing, a sturdy hide, and a shallow water dish. A 10-gallon tank or equivalent is suitable for an adult. Maintain moderate humidity and a temperature gradient from 75-82°F.
Are these wild-caught or captive-bred?
This pair is captive-bred (F1 or later generation). We source from reputable domestic breeders to ensure health, reduce stress on wild populations, and provide you with animals better adapted to captive conditions.
