Your Questions Answered
Is this gecko a good choice for a first-time reptile owner?
Yes. African Fat Tail Geckos, including this Caramel Albino morph, are generally docile, have modest space requirements, and are hardy. Their care is similar to a Leopard Gecko but they prefer slightly higher humidity. Ensure you research proper setup before purchase.
What do you feed them, and how often?
We feed a variety of appropriately sized, gut-loaded insects like crickets and dubia roaches, dusted with calcium and vitamins. Juveniles should be fed daily, while adults can be fed every other day. Always provide a shallow dish of fresh water.
How does its care differ from a Leopard Gecko?
The primary difference is humidity. Fat Tails require a higher ambient humidity (50-60%) and a consistently moist hide to aid in shedding. They are also often more sedentary and can be slightly more sensitive to improper husbandry than Leopard Geckos.
