Description

The Amel Tangerine Stripe African Fat Tail Gecko Baby is a high-color, captive-bred reptile for the intermediate to advanced keeper looking for a unique display animal. Its vibrant amelanistic tangerine and clean dorsal stripe are the result of selective breeding. Since we added it to our lineup in late 2025, it has consistently been a top seller and a regular reorder for us.

Stand-Out Features

  • Vibrant Amelanistic Coloration: Lacks dark pigment, allowing the bright tangerine and yellow hues to show without obscuring black markings.
  • Defined Dorsal Stripe: Features a clean, light-colored stripe running from head to tail, a hallmark of the stripe morph.
  • Captive-Bred & Established: Hatched in captivity, these geckos are well-started, feeding, and acclimated to human care.

Your Questions Answered

What size enclosure does a baby Fat Tail Gecko need?

A 10-gallon tank is sufficient for a single baby. Provide a secure lid, a humid hide, a warm side around 88-90°F, and a cool side in the mid-70s°F. They are terrestrial, so floor space is more important than height.

How does the “Amel” morph affect the gecko’s appearance?

Amelanism, or amelanistic, means the gecko lacks black melanin pigment. This allows the underlying tangerine, orange, and yellow colors to appear more vivid and clean, without any dark speckling or shading muddying the pattern.

Are African Fat Tail Geckos good for beginners?

They are generally docile and a good step up from a Leopard Gecko. Their care is similar but they require slightly higher humidity. We recommend them for keepers with some reptile experience, as they can be more sensitive to incorrect husbandry than a Leopard Gecko.
